Heck (formerly Baby Godzilla) are quite possibly the angriest band in Britain.
They first began to capture the attention of hardcore and punk listeners with their potent cocktail of aural abrasion and righteous fury in 2012, before finally releasing their debut, Instructions, in early 2016.
“We have accepted that we are not what the people with money in the industry want. And that’s fine. It’s just that we will carry on doing it regardless” - Heck
They are a band with one rule: “don’t be a dick” and they try to abide by it in all aspects of their endeavours. While they’ve always been a formidable and, it must be said, destructive force onstage, Instructions has seen them stake a claim as rapidly advancing songwriters, providing a backbone to the live spectacle.
Matt sat down with Jonny Hall and Paul Shelley to discuss using anger as songwriting tinder, going it alone in the music industry and that time they got banned from Walkabout in Nottingham.
